Christian Perspective

Officially a Roman Catholic nation, the majority of the population does not regularly attend church. A predominantly affluent society, the economic crisis of the 90’s has caused people to begin searching a new meaning to life.

Praise Points:

  • Huge growth in evangelical Christian population (1990: 1 million, 2000: 2.5 million)
  • The church is pressing forward to further reach more people. They hope to have 15,000 additional new churches by 2015.

Prayer Points:

  • The social struggle: against poverty, lawlessness, etc.
  • Spiritual oppression: high levels of spiritist practices and low church attendance within the Catholic church
  • That the ministries started will flourish: ie. Christian and Amerindian missions, Christian radio, and outreach groups to Chinese and Arab communities
