Embracing the World

As a denomination, we have added the tag line "embracing the world" to our signature. We pray in our Vision Prayer that we will be transformed by Christ, transforming the world. We are not the agents of transformation. Only Christ can transform, and all glory goes to him. Our part is to represent Christ, as Paul put it, to be his ambassadors, to plead with people to be reconciled to God. To do that, we must have depth of love even as God the Father has his infinite love towards the world.

Your church is not simply a local church. Your church is involved in rescuing children from prostitution, both here in Canada and in other countries; in bringing restoration in Haiti, in offering relief in Japan, and we are responding to the fire in Slave Lake and the floods in Manitoba and Quebec. You helped to send chaplains to New York City after 9/11 and workers to Waveland Mississippi after Hurricane Katrina. Recently, I was in Indonesia and met pastors from tribes who were led to Christ by Alliance workers eighty years ago. Vietnam is currently celebrating 100 years of the Gospel, the Gospel that was brought to them by Canadian Robert A. Jaffray and his co-workers. Your church is part of all of these stories.

I wish I could say we never fail. We do fail. Sometimes we lose heart, become distracted, become compassion consumers (looking for the latest thrilling disaster to work on or give to), or worse, retreat into ourselves. But God continues to call us out of ourselves, out of our local concerns, out into the world. Join us. Join the Alliance Churches in Canada in embracing the world.

Franklin Pyles
President

As a family of churches we have committed to join together to share the love of God around the world.

Jesus warned us about the growth of persecution, not to frighten us, but to strengthen us.

Covenants are strong solemn promises that parties make to each other.

Their pain is Jesus' pain.

Our missionaries and their children look upon us as their lifeline.

The Church will follow Christ in suffering.

We are the first responders to the places of least-reached peoples.

Thank you for giving, praying, going.

I would suggest that we think of ourselves as a missionary family of churches.

Please pray for the church around the world.

Let us be people who will change the world.

The growth of the church was a team effort.

...include in our celebration those who are exemplifying the incarnation

The temptation to act from a sense of superiority is constantly with us.

A special thank you from another country.

Why do we send people to hard, and sometimes dangerous places? Why do we continually ask you to stand behind them, to pray for them, to support them with your gifts?

we have a mandate to preach the Good News of the coming of Christ

Jesus pointed to signs of God's activity in saving the world

We Stand at a Crossroad

Your church is not simply a local church.
