Transformation and Holiness

Do people come to Christ and then – well, that's that? We all know that coming to Christ is the beginning, and the journey is both a journey of our whole lifetime but also a journey of expanding our heart to have more and more of God. Because there is always more of God to know and enjoy, we never truly end. In fact, I don't think we will ever completely end, but we will always be immersed in God's depths and stretched to God's horizon, all of this summed up as growing in holiness. God is holy and we are called in Christ to be holy.

People in our world are longing for holiness; at least, they are longing to see holy people. People in Florida and the Ukraine are rioting for justice, while here in Canada a recent court decision made – it was said, to protect women – will, in the opinion of many, actually endanger, if not lead to the harm of women. Injustice abounds, as does the falling into temptation and the yielding to various snares set by Satan. Against this stands the holy life, a life consciously and intentionally lived for God, motivated, not by the hope of merit, but by passionate love for the Eternal One. John Wesley called it the burning heart.

People in our world are longing for holiness...

When does transformation begin and how does one recognize it? Wrong question. Is Christ living his life out through me and am I welcoming that, seeking that, in every way am I being defined by his divine life? Am I like a tree planted by the waters (Psalm 1), like an eagle climbing higher (Isaiah 40:31), do I know the height of his love and the fatherliness of his compassion (Psalm 103:11, 13)? These are the right questions, the questions that will lead any of us into the ever expanding transformed life of holiness.
