Christian Perspective

Although religious freedom is permitted in France it is a secular state. Almost 20% of the population is “non-religious.” Of the Christian population the majority is Catholic with less than 1% being evangelical. France is a nation that, in both the past and present, tends to seek man’s wisdom and guidance rather than God’s.

Praise Points:

  • The growth in evangelical Christianity over the past 40 years (1960: 100,000; 2000: 488,000).
  • The Roma (Gypsy) population is now the most evangelical in France.

Prayer Points:

  • Widespread involvement of occult practices and many historical strongholds that block acceptance of Christ.
  • The government must make decisions that will better France as a whole, but will run contrary to those with certain vested interests.
  • More Christian leadership and infrastructure is needed to support the already existing church base.
