The value of “spice” for “life” is profoundly illustrated in 1 Kings 10:10. When a queen from Sheba gazed spellbound at the wisdom and achievements of an impressive young king, she chose spice as part of her gift of enduring appreciation…”never again were so many spices brought in as those the Queen of Sheba gave to King Solomon.”

A.B. Simpson once stated that, "Prayer is the mighty engine that is to move the missionary work." Without the sustained and intercessory prayers of God’s faithful servants, the challenges of reaching the teaming millions of Asian people will be insurmountable. In 2008, incredible devastation once again rocked Asian Spice nations through natural disasters of great magnitude. The earthquake in Sichuan, China and the cyclone in Myanmar resulted in hundreds of thousands of deaths, injuries and people left homeless and in great need. Out of these seemingly helpless situations, the redemptive character of God has thrust open new doors of opportunity where previous access was nearly non-existent. This is the sovereign work of a loving God that earnestly desires to draw people to himself. People who were without hope in these places are now discovering the truth of the good news of Jesus Christ.

Throughout the Asian Spice region, God’s Spirit is moving. Through one of our teams, a small fellowship is emerging among those of a fanatical Muslim background who are coming to know Jesus. Those from a fanatical and dark Buddhist background have taken steps to grow in their walk with God by being baptized. Marginalized, abused and disenfranchised people are being practically loved by God “through” his servants. For this, we rejoice and give great glory to God. We look with anticipation for a fresh work of his Spirit as together we unite our hearts in prayer to see his Kingdom of light established amongst the least reached across Asian Spice.

How you can pray:

  1. Pray for strongholds to be broken down by God’s Spirit as we walk through new doors of opportunity, for visions and dreams to be delivered through God’s Spirit, and for wisdom, direction and strength for our workers. New ministry models are being integrated in our strategy for Diaspora peoples that focus upon scattered Filipino, Vietnamese and other ethnic groups. Pray for clear vision, efficiency and dynamic Kingdom results through these important efforts.
  2. Pray for the recently deployed workers who have gone into the Asian Spice region and are learning new languages. Pray against discouragement as well as developing friendships that will provide meaningful language opportunities and growth in their love for their new home.
  3. Pray for daily wisdom to be granted to leadership so that humble and godly direction, care and empowerment will be modelled in the ministry contexts that have been entrusted to us by God.
